The Ship

The ship sailed far across sea
The captain aboard tried to flee
His shipmates were all but old men
Who followed his suit like a hen
Pecking away at his orders
Paying their debts as his boarders.
Soon all they heard were his pleas
Pleading to God on his knees
Nothing to view but high water
They tried to push on without falter
None could prevent what came after
The ship was a flood with their laughter.
They realised they hadn’t been out
Their ship was just bobbing about
As the fog started clearing they saw
All that time they’d been tied to the shore!
