Trust

In her eyes you see darkness,
a deep pool of sadness
sinking far beneath the surface,
swallowed whole.

Cocooned in a thick cloud,
forcing a smile,
the pretense taking hold,
visible to none
other than those she doesn’t choose to deceive.

Frozen emotions released,
the smile fading,
eyes open,
brow burrowed.

Her body melting,
riding the waves of calm,
the warmth of knowing,
understanding, and being
a blanket of comfort and support.

They’re intertwined in trust.

A poem of friendship and trust. Only the friend can see the truth behind the mask and only that friend is trusted with the truth. She sees, understands and comforts…
